Devastated

As I learned the news of the Connecticut school shooting I became overwhelmed with emotions.  I cannot even begin to comprehend the emotions that those students, teachers, and parents must be feeling at Sandy Hook.  How can something like this happen at the very place where children should feel the safest besides their own homes.  This isn't the first time either.  We need to make a change!

At this time, hug your family and friends extra tighter.  Take a moment and let the people you love know how much they mean to you.

Our lives move forward and pretty soon this news becomes the past.  Do not forget.

Need for Entertainment

I LOVE the holiday time!  It's such a beautiful time of year devoted to celebrating family, friends, and ourselves.  It's also a time for holiday parties.

If you are entertaining this holiday season, I'm pretty sure that you need to have these:

Amazing serving pieces

Not your average martini shaker

A stylish place to rest your drink

Mood lighting

Popping bottles

InStyle: Black Kitchen Cabinets

Why be afraid of the color black?  I for one am a big fan of black.  I don't see this color as dark and drab, I see it as a powerful neutral.

I am constantly scouring the internet checking out home based blogs and websites (this pastime is one of my favorite time suckers).  What I've been noticing are more and more people embracing the dark side in their kitchens.

Here are a few of my favorite photos:

Closet Preview

Every woman's dream is to have an amazing closet.  It should have shelves for displaying shoes and handbags, a ton of hanging space, and stylized touches that make it stand out.  I just finished designing a closet for a client and the stylized touches that I am loving are the closet doors that I made for her.  Check them out!

Sputnik

I recently had a meeting for a nursery that I am designing.  I was showing my clients different options for light fixtures and they flipped over the "Sputnik".  That's all I had to hear, and I was off on a mission to find the perfect one.  Here are some inspiration shots and some great fixtures that I found.

Showing Off

I LOVE designing kitchens.  They are the heart of the house and where most of the action takes place.  It is so important to have a kitchen that you feel comfortable working in.  When starting kitchen remodels, usually my client's number one reason for doing a remodel is that their kitchens do not work for them and they love to cook.  How can you find inspiration for a dish in a kitchen that is too hard to get around, no matter how large a space you have?

Today, I am showing off!  Here are two photos of a kitchen and butler's pantry that I recently designed for a spec house.  Since I didn't have a particular person that I was designing for, I made the kitchen how I would want it.

Find more photos of this project on my website at www.aw-id.com.

A Little Leopard

When it comes to leopard, I am definitely my mother's daughter.  If there was any trait that I inherited from her, it was the love of just that.  Here are some of my fav's:

Obsessions...

I have never been one to be OCD.  However, when designing rooms for my clients, I sometimes find myself obsessing over certain items that go in these rooms.  It can be something very large, like a sofa, or it can be something quite small, like a bud vase.

This time, it's ANYTHING LUCITE.  For the home or for me to wear.
